– Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC& Western Dedicated Freight Corridor -is a planned industrial development project between India’s capital, Delhi and its financial hub, Mumbai. It is one of the world’s largest infrastructure projects with an estimated investment of US$90 billion and is planned as a high-tech industrial zone spread across Six Indian States, as well as Delhi, the national capital and itself a Union Territory. The investments will be spread across the 1,500 km long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor which will serve as the industrial corridor’s transportation backbone.

The  DMIC &  the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor has seen very slow progress under the UPA Government. The Manmohan Singh cabinet gave its approval to the project in 2008. But the first civil contract for construction of rail tracks and signaling was given only in 2013. When Modi Government came into existence the things really started moving. According to Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India documents, contracts for 41% of the 1504 kilometer railway line were given in 2015-16. These contracts are worth over Rs 90 billion . Contracts for 12 bridges over Yamuna, Hindon, Narmada and other smaller rivers in Gujarat were also given only in 2015-16 and are estimated to be worth over Rs 10 billion. In November 2018 Modi cabinet approved funds of Rs.3000 Crores and decided to complete the project in 2020.

On 9 September Shri Modi inaugurated the AURIC project’s Central Administrative and Commercial building at Aurangabad. The Auric City is  a green field Smart Industrial City which part of DMIC.

The 306 km-long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor’s Rewari (Haryana) – Madar (Rajasthan) Section was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 January 2021. This is part of 1500 K M Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project which part of DMIC. In last 7 years Modi Government has successfully completed many important parts of this project such as Industrial Nodes of Dholera Industrial City, Gujarat (22.5 sq. km) Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra (40 sq. km) Integrated Industrial Township, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh (745 acres) Integrated Industrial Township, Vikram Udyogpuri, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh (1100 acres).

 

Amritsar Delhi Kolkata Industrial Corridor ( ADKIC) & Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor– This a dedicated freight corridor of 1875 K M. It will connect Ludhiyana in Punjab to Dankudi in West Bengal. This project will be beneficial to 40% population of India. Though this project was approved by UPA Government on 20th January 2014 all the work of this project is carried out by Modi Government. Modi Government is developing this Corridor speedily. A part of this corridor from New Bhaupur to Khurja track 351 K M & a State of the Art Operation Control Centre at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh was inaugurated on 29 December 2020.

This Corridor connects Delhi- Amritsar- Katara Expressway of 634 K M involving a cost of Rs.35000 Crores.

– National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT): In December 2016 the mandate and scope of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor corporation was changed and it was assigned the task of integrated development of Industrial Corridors throughout the country. The said authority has planned five Industrial Corridors in different part of our country. Government of India has approved the development of five industrial corridor projects to be implemented through NICDIT. These five corridors are i) Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor ( DMIC), Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) with Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) as Phase-1, Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC)
