Some path breaking Infrastructure Projects by Modi Government-
– Rupsi Airport, Assam –This is a Domestic Airport in Kokhrajhar District of Assam. This airport is situated near Bangladesh, Bhutan and China borders and is strategically important for defence purpose also. As a domestic airport it will reduce passenger load from Bagdogra Airport. This airport is built on 447 Acre land under UDAN scheme at a cost of 69 Crores. The work for this airport was started in 2019 and was completed in May 2021.
– Under sea Fibre Cable Project– Andaman & Nicobar Iland- Opticle Fiber cable between Chennai and Andaman Nicobar island and North to south of these islands. Length 1400 K.M. from Chennai and 900 km on the Island. Digital connectivity between Port blair and all parts of the Islands and with Rest of India. Started Dec.2018 completed in August 2020. – Ro-Ro ferry service– P M Modi inaugurated his dream project Roll-on-Roll-Off ( Ro-Ro ) ferry service between Ghoga in Bhavnagar to Dahej in Bharuch. This project is described as Bench Mark not only for India but for South Et Asia. The PM also stressed on the importance of integrated transport system that includes Waterways, Road, Railway and Air transport. This Ro-Ro service has reduced the travel time between Ghoga in Bhavnagar and Dahej in Bharuch from 8 Hours ( 360 KM by Road) to 1.5 Hours ( 31 KM by Sea). This Ro Ro service also carries trucks, light commercial vehicles and cars along with passengers. Shri Narendra Modi has planned this project in 2012 but the then UPA Government has not given necessaryclearances.
– Hojai-Lumding Railway Line in Asam – It is a broad guage double line railway track. The length of this track is 44.92 K.Ms. Construction of this track was started in Sept.2016 and was completed in July 2019. The total cost of this project is Rs.398.93 Crores. This double Railway Track and it is giving uninterrupted railway services to the people of this region.
– Gandhinagar Railway Station Re-development Project– Shri Narendra Modi had a dream of building a State of the Art railway station at Gandhinagar in his home state-Gujrat. This station comes under Western Zone of Railway. This station is built on 34 Acre of land. It has Wifi facility and seating arrangements for 600 passengers. The redevelopment work was started in Jan 2017 & this railway station was inaugurated by Shri Modi on June 16, 2021. The total cost of this project is Rs.750 Crores. Three towers of a five-star hotel stand tall 22.5 metres from the station. The Government of India is undertaking the redevelopment of 125 railway stations across the country and Gandhinagar is the first redeveloped station in the country. This work will be done by Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC).
– Gujarat-Gorakhpur gas pipeline: Government-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is laying India’s longest LPG pipeline from Kandla coast in Gujarat to Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The 1987-km pipeline will carry 3.75 million tons per year of LPG and move from Kandla to Gorakhpur via Ahmedabad, Ujjain, Bhopal, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi and Lucknow.
– Mumbai Trans Harbour Link- Sewri Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link- This is an under-construction 21.8 kilometres freeway grade road bridge connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city. When completed, it would be the longest sea bridge in India. The bridge will begin in Sewri, South Mumbai and will terminate at Chirle near Nhava Sheva. The road will be linked to the Mumbai Pune Expressway in the east and to the proposed Western Freeway in the west. This project was under planning for many years and successive Congress NCP Govt. were unable to start the same for want of necessary clearances. When the BJP Shiv Sena Govt. under the able leadership of Shri Devendra Fadnavis came in power he obtained most of the permissions. He initiated actual work of the project. The project is estimated to cost ₹18000 crores. MMRDA the project implementing agency estimates that 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily after it opens.
– Bogibeel Bridge- is a combined road and rail bridge over the Brahmaputra River in the northeastern state of Assam between Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district, which was started in the year 2002 by the then NDA Government of Shir Atalji Vajpeyi. and took total 200 months to complete. Bogibeel river bridge is the longest rail-cum-road bridge in India, measuring 4.94 kilometres over the Brahmaputra river. It was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi on 25th December 2018. As it is situated in an earthquake-prone area it is India’s first bridge to have fully welded steel-concrete support beams that can withstand earthquakes of magnitudes up to 7 on the Richter scale. It is Asia’s second longest rail-cum-road bridge and has a serviceable period of around 120 years.
– Chardham Pariyojana- Chardham Highway Project: The Ministry has taken up separate programme for connectivity improvement for Char-Dham (Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunothri & Gangothri) in Uttarakhand. The project’s main objective is to develop 889 km of national highways. These highways will be built in Uttarakhand. Out of total 53 civil works covering the entire length of 889 km project, 40 civil works of total project cost amounting to Rs. 9474 crore in a length of 673 km have been sanctioned. The Chardham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojna, or the Chardham highway development project, is an ambitious initiative to improve connectivity to the Char Dham pilgrimage centres in the Himalayas.
Dholera SIR ( Dholera Special Investment Region)This city is being built as a world class city with best in class amenities. It is situated a 100 kilometers from Ahmedabad and in Ahmedabad District. It boasts of being the first smart city of India. Dholera GIFT city is different from Dholera SIR on many counts, including their location. Both are greenfield projects. The important features and developments in this SIR city are it has 920 square kilometers area of which more than 500 square kilometers will be the developable area. It shall be a special node in Gujarat for the DMIC project giving further impetus to the project. It is being developed as a global manufacturing hub. It shall also be developed as a multi modal transport hub owing to its closeness to the Northern states of India. Dholera SIR shall be excellently connected to important cities of Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar through a 6 lane highway. Development of international airport at Dholera has been approved by relevant authorities. Nearness to the port gives added advantage to lure in foreign investments. Infrastructure components shall include roads, utilities, potable water supply, hospital, sanitation, waste treatment plant, desalination plant, hospitality and tourism amongst many others. Rs. 3,000 crores has been sanctioned by central government for development work. Rest has to be raised through PPP model and foreign investments. Dholera SIR is divided into 6 town planning scheme of which town planning scheme 1 & 2 sanctioned in October 2012. The project is divided in three phases and each shall take about a decade to complete.
GIFT city (Gujarat International Finance Tech City) GIFT city is located at 12 K.M from
the Ahmedabad airport and is emerging as an international finance and technological hub that might soon replace Mumbai. Spread over 890 acres of land, the city has many important features. The city shall consist of 110 skyscrapers and 20,000 residential units. It shall also contain many commercial units. GIFT city is expected to generate employment for 10 lakh people – 5 lakh shall be directly employed mainly in financial and IT sector and 5 lakhs shall be indirectly employed. About 1 lakh people shall live in this city. The city shall have a splendid metro connectivity. All commercial buildings shall be linked to metro with none being farther than 500 meters from the metro station. GIFT shall be the commercial hub of Gujarat and shall consist of hotels, shopping malls, hospitals and educational centres. It shall be a preferred venue for MNC’s to set up their corporate offices. About 60% of the area shall be green area and comprise of parks and other green developments. The city shall have 24 hours water supply, waste water management, 24 hours electricity, sewage management and underground utility tunnel for waste disposal system. This tunnel shall use plasma technology to generate electricity out of the city’s waste.
